Possible to switch from IdentIcon?

Is it possible to change the generated avatars from IdentIcon to some other Libravatar variant, like retro or something like that?
Almost all of the avatars that are generated for my users have horribly ugly color combinations and patterns, and I’m looking for alternatives for those who aren’t uploading their own avatars.

I’ve been looking in the source code but can’t find anything akin to d=identicon or anything like that, which I’ve gathered as being the way to set which variant is to be used when calling Libravatar. Any ideas?

I was just looking at this as I much prefer the letter + color approach used on Discourse. The avatars seem to be generated in the source code here and it’s using issue9/identicon.
